Dennis Rivas is proud to be a part of Dieruff's wrestling revival.
Last weekend, the Huskies enjoyed their best District 11 tournament in 45 years, qualifying four wrestlers for the PIAA Class 3A Northeast Regional.
On Friday, all four of the Dieruff qualifiers — Jeremy Allen, Jayden Reyes, Rivas and Jovon Reyes — advanced through the quarterfinal round of the regional tournament at Liberty High School. Each of the Husky quartet returns to Memorial Gymnasium Saturday for the 11 a.m. semifinals.
"I'm excited and a little surprised," said Rivas, a senior 182-pounder. "This is a big tournament. I didn't know how I'd do and I didn't know how the team would do."
