Northampton native and Central Catholic graduate Meredith Marakovits confirmed via text message the other night that she has accepted a job offer to cover the Yankees for the YES Network. News has already spread throughout New York.

She will be replacing Kim Jones on YES as the team's clubhouse reporter and will be doing the pre- and post-game shows show as well as the many other feature type things YES does both on TV and online.

Jones, a Lancaster area native and Penn State grad, had spent seven seasons on the Yankees beat for YES, but left in January to pursue other opportunities.

"Meredith possesses major market experience, an ability to move from features to clubhouse work to studio work with ease, and the prerequisite knowldge of and passion for baseball," said John J. Filippelli, president of production and programming for the YES Network. "Although she has excelled at covering numerous sports, Meredith has shown a particular talent for covering baseball, and she will fit right in with our Yankees broadcast team.

We're going to try get an interivew with Meredith very soon, but we know she is very excited about this opportunity.

She has become a two-city media star. Marakovits has certainly become well known in the Philadelphia market where she is a sideline reporter for the 76ers and a regular contributor on Comcast SportsNet.

Marakovits, who played basketball and volleyball at Central Catholic and volleyball at La Salle, got her start in baseball by covering the first few seasons of the Lehigh Valley IronPigs for Service Electric TV2.

At Service Electric, she covered a variety of high school sports.

Because of the blackout rules, Service Electric and RCN Cable subscribers can't get the Yankees games, but you can get the pre- and post-game coverage where Meredith will be quite visible.

More coming soon on this exciting opportunity in the big city for one of the Valley's own.
