Sports Media Weekly Podcast No. 93- John Daly, The Daly Planet

There is a lot on our plate during this week’s edition of the Sports Media Weekly Podcast.

Ken Fang of Fang’s Bites and I start the show talking about the inappropriate headline that appeared on ESPN’s mobile site over the weekend in connection with Knicks guard Jeremy Lin. Ken has a personal connection to the story while I try to focus on the excessive sensitivity to racial speech in our current culture.

We then follow-up on the ratings bonanza the Lin story has provided the the NBA media, specifically MSG in New York, which magically settled its carriage dispute with Time Warner Cable.

We also follow-up on the impact watching the NCAA Men’s College Basketball Tournament online may have for some folks. We talk about the announcer pairings for the tournament and we wrap up our news segment looking back at the announcement that Ron Jaworski will not longer be in the Monday Night Football booth beginning next season.

With the Daytona 500 this weekend we decided to invite John Daly of The Daly Planet back to the show to talk about the beginning of the NASCAR season. John talks about how Fox, TNT, and ESPN plan to cover the races this year and its impact on bidding for the next television contract, which may take place later this year.
