Central Catholic routed by Council Rock North, 75-49 in Hoop Group event

FROM KEITH GROLLER

It was close for a half, but District One power Council Rock had too much firepower for Central Catholic and pulled away in the second half for a 75-49 victory in the first game of four at the 17th annual Lehigh Valley Hoop Group Showcase at Parkland.

The Indians, coached by former Moravian standout Derek Wright, improved to 14-3, placing four guys in double figures.

Aaron Morgan, a UMBC recruit, led the way with 19 points and five assists.

Aaron Goodman, who is headed to Philadelphia University, added 18 points.

Morgan scored 13 points in the second half and Goodman added 11 after intermission as Council Rock North outscored CCHS 44-23 after halftime.

Council Rock North made nine 3-pointers, including six in the second half.

The Vikings (11-7) had lots of foul trouble and no one reached double figures.

Jean Lee Baez and Muhammad Ali Abdur-Rahkman had nine points apiece while Jimmy Vaughan and Mike Kammerer had eight apiece.

The loss denied CCHS coach Rich Fatzinger from reaching the 500-win mark in his coaching career. The 499 wins for Fatzinger includes his 12 seasons as the Parkland girls coach. He's 499-281 overall. In 18 boys seasons at Parkland and CCHS, Fatzinger is 316-154.
