Your comments: Should high school marching bands wear uniforms at football games?

FROM THE EXPRESS TIMES

The Nazareth Blue Eagles stopped Easton 28-21 on Saturday to take home the District 11 Class AAAA football championship but not all of the Lehigh Valley community's attention was focused on the gridiron action.

lehighvalleylive.com reader nazarethresident took issue with the uniform-less Nazareth marching band.

nazarethresident wrote:

"First off, congratulations to Carole Lutte and the Easton Marching Band for being a class act yet again last evening.

As a Nazareth taxpayer, I am extremely disappointed in the lack of professionalism our band displayed last night. No half time or pre-game performance, no discipline upon entry to stadium and NO UNIFORMS. This may be acceptable for a basketball game but certainly not for arguably the biggest HOME football game of the year."
In response multiple lehighvalleylive.com readers like nazfan12 and turkey noted that the Nazareth band's official competitive season takes place outside the football games and involves hours of daily practice.

In fact, the Marching Blue Eagles' U.S. Scholastic Band Association achievements this season include the top overall score at the Oct. 22 show at Northampton.

Nevertheless, Aiden215 wondered if a better balance could be struck between football game performance and band competition and wrote:

"Good posts by turkey and nazfan12. I, too, am wondering why other schools have a different approach. No answer here, but I bet there are many band directors in the area who might have a clue as to how to balance the football with the competition. Do we know for sure that the NHS band director really wants his kids at the games? That might be a good place to start."
Do you think that marching bands should prioritize football games over band competitions? Should uniforms be mandated whenever the band plays at games?

Tell us what you think below.
