Several Nazareth area streets closed, trees down as snow piles up

FROM THE EXPRESS TIMES

Numerous trees are down and roads are closed in the Nazareth area as public works officials scramble to react to the late-October snowstorm.

At least four inches of snow accumulation had piled up by 4 o'clock today and some main thoroughfares were shut down as leaf-heavy trees cracked under the weight of the heavy, slushy snow.

Walnut Street near Friedenstahl Avenue was closed in Upper Nazareth due to a downed tree. In the middle of the borough of Nazareth, Broad Street was closed between Walnut and Prospect streets due to another downed tree. Fire police directed traffic along side streets as workers toiled to clear the town's main drag.

New Street between Belvidere and Center streets was also closed as a result of a felled tree. Residents in nearby homes were dealing with numerous downed trees, some of which fell on cars. Several areas were without power.
