Colonial League boys basketball joins Lehigh Valley Chapter of Coaches vs. Cancer

FROM THE EXPRESS TIMES

Colonial League boys basketball has joined the Lehigh Valley Chapter of Coaches vs. Cancer with a list of eight games for its inaugural season: Southern Lehigh at Notre Dame, 1 p.m. Saturday; Northern Lehigh at Northwestern, 7:15 p.m. Wednesday; Wilson at Pen Argyl, Catasauqua at Bangor, Southern Lehigh at Palisades and Pen Argyl at Northern Lehigh, 7:15 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 4; Palmerton at Pen Argyl and Saucon Valley at Southern Lehigh, 7:15 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 8.

All proceeds for the events will be donated to the Coaches vs. Cancer organization.

Since its inception in 1996, Coaches vs. Cancer has raised more than $5 million in the Philadelphia region and nearly $45 million nationwide.

The program, which began in collaboration with the American Cancer Society and National Association of Basketball Coaches, is focused on year-round educational efforts and fundraising activities in support of the society's mission to eliminate cancer.

"When we found out the Lehigh Valley had a chapter we thought, 'how could we not get involved," Pen Argyl coach Mike Frew said. "This is something people can really rally behind. It's such a common disease and I bet everyone -- whether it's a relative, friend, colleague, neighbor, etc. -- has been affected by it to some degree. We all know someone fighting that battle daily."
